Britta Cabanos is the founder of Inside Fashion Design (ifd), a community that connects emerging and experienced fashion professionals through mentorship, industry conversations, and collaboration.
What prompted your career transition?
In speaking with people across the fashion industry I kept hearing 'I need a seamstress, a maker, business advice, mentors, exposure'. I became determined to create a solution where my audience can find the person or resource that was missing from their rolodex.
What were some of the conventional beliefs or fears that made the change difficult?
The most difficult part was giving up a partnership and studio environment. It was sad and hard to leave an arrangement I really enjoyed.
What helped you through the transition?
As I began building, additional market opportunities, like continued education from industry experts and fashion show production, arose quickly and validated viability.
Are you glad you made the change?
For sure! I couldn’t stop thinking about what I wanted to build, so venturing out on my own gave me the time and space to go after what was really speaking to me.
